Canadian Universities

Hi all,

I searching for good universities in Canada that have acceptance rates that hover around 55-65 %. Preferably ones that are closer to east coast/ New York area so it will be easier for me to come home. I am interested in psychology.

Thank your for all responses in advance.

Canadian universities generally don’t publish acceptance rates. The acceptance rates vary tremendously between programs. The University of Toronto is the only Canadian university I know of with an overall acceptance rate in that range. Psychology at U of T is part of the life sciences program which requires calculus for admission.

It’s probably best to choose a Canadian university by something other than admission rate. Do you have ACT or SAT scores? GPA? Admission to life sciences will be score-based, not holistic.

McGill has an acceptance rate of about 45%. They publish minimum requirements for SAT/ACT scores and UW GPA. you can look that up on their website.

Edit: From your posting history you have a 3.1 UW GPA. That would result in a denial from McGill in most programs.

There are a number of Canadian schools that would be great for psych.
Here’s a link to Maclean’s, the Canadian cousin to US News and World Report rankings, so take it with a grain of salt.

Note that they have two primary categories - one for mostly undergrad, and one for comprehensive grad and undergrad.
The schools that you hear mentioned most about in the US are the combo grad/undergrad, which can be compared to our large public university systems, as well as the mostly undergrad, which although smaller are almost all public, are more closely related to our LAC system. A good example is Mount Allison.

Here’s the link to Canadian program rankings for psych, but be sure to check out the programs at Concordia, Queens, Waterloo and Dalhousie:

I have a 3.1 UW GPA and 1930 SAT

thank you hop! I will look into those universities
