<p>No, you don't have to take American history. But if you are interested in it, or thinking of pursuing a major in the social sciences, it might be a good idea (just for your own benefit, not for the sake of admission). </p>
<p>If you are wondering about taking the SAT II US History, I can tell you that I took it after 2 months of self-studying (with absolutely no prior knowledge whatsoever) and got a 740. It's not hard.</p>
