Cancelling FSU Housing Contract???

So I was misinformed and told on campus housing was necessary for freshman. Now I know that is false, and with the ridiculous amount of money dorms are I cannot afford to live on campus. I thought getting out of the contract would be simple so I went apartment hunting and found an apartment and signed a lease. Is there a way I can get out of the FSU Housing contract other than not enrolling. At this point I dont even care if i dont get my prepayment back, i just want out! Please Help. Thanks!

Technically, no. Once you sign the housing contract you’re technically liable for the cost of housing. This is mentioned somewhere in the contract process (I don’t know exactly where. I know it’s a big deal though).

Your best bet would be to contact housing and ask them what your options are. It’s a colossal pain to break the contract (take it from someone that has experience with something simple that involved my housing contract). You probably won’t find out for months whether you are even allowed out of the contract.

I don’t know who told you that you had to live on campus as a freshman at FSU, but it’s physically impossible for FSU to enforce that. There are thousands more students that enter FSU as a freshman than there are spots in housing for them.
