There’s plenty of talk on these forums regarding the candidate’s choice and its pros/cons. Now that my second child received it I wanted to comment on something interesting we noticed that might be helpful for people considering it. We briefly scanned through the application and it is in fact a little easier than the common-app method but there are a few things that concerned us about it. If you look at the common data set at section C7 you will see that first generation and alumni relation are considered and in the common app those questions come up but they don’t appear in the candidate’s choice app. There is additionally a small essay required in the Candidate’s Choice app but which doesn’t seem too difficult. The essay asked what did you do over the past two summers. Since he already had his common-app finished before getting the candidate’s choice he agrees that the two points in C7 can only be a plus for his chances of getting accepted so he’s going with that instead. Nothing concrete but it’s atleast a little something, and we are doing every possible thing to get him into his first choice.
