My D seems to be staying busy and trying not to worry about college acceptances. I am definitely worrying more than she is.

I visited Olin last March with my D so I was trying to get my husband to go if D gets invited. He's a computer guy and I think he would really enjoy it. During our visit we were really impressed with the friendliness and we got the impression they would help you get whatever resources you needed. Every time my D asked about something (like a campus radio station) they would say we don't have one now but we can get one for you.

When we visited last spring we didn't rent a car and were using public transportation from Boston so we had a hard time getting to the campus. The receptionist finally came and picked us up as we were trying to walk to campus from the train station with no taxi's in sight. We didn't realize it was so far outside the city. So I was worrying about the transportation for CW.

Transportation is a bit of a pain. When my daughter went to CW, we bit the bullet and took a cab, about $55 from Logan Airport. Over the years she attended Olin, there were several different airport shuttle companies that served the Babson/Olin/Wellesley communities. You might try that route, they may have links on the Logan airport website. And, as we never had a car there, we stayed at the Babson Executive Education Center, which is a very short walk to the Olin campus.

I think it's easy to stay out of your son/daughter's way during CW. Olin is a unique school, and I think it's interesting to visit and hear what goes on there. When you think of all the college tours you've been on, Olin CW is a real breath of fresh air.

I have made that walk from the train station in town. . . Natick? On a fine spring or summer day, it's a nice walk but in Feb or March. . . forget it!

Good luck to all those who have applied. We were in your shoes last year. My daughter and I loved candidates weekend and Olin. She was accepted and is having a great time, working hard, and from what we can see getting a unique education.

Thanks for the information on transporation and staying at the executive center. We will see what happens next week with the decision letters and then swing into action with making arrangements if needed. Olin sounds like a wonderful school.

"I don't recall the exact number, but there is a cap on international admissions at Olin, set in their by-laws. I think it might be 5%.

They need to work on the number of female applicants. . . . 27% is too low when the goal is 50% of the admitted class! I wonder how that compares with past years."

I think that 27% is about the same as previous years. My understanding is that the women who apply are much more self-selecting than the men. So while almost every girl that applies is very qualified for Olin, some of the boys are not.

I remember one year admissions said that there were somewhere between 25-33% girls who applied but that no girl was in the bottom 1/3 of the applicant pool...
