I cant decide what I should major in! I picked nursing but im so unsure about it, I also like business. I dont know what to do! If you have any insight to share with me it would be much appreciated!
Totally know where you’re coming from. But no one here can really tell you what you should major in. You know yourself better than anyone else, so only you can make the best decision.
I’ve used mymajors.com which is free and has a quiz that you take that will suggest majors for you. I found this really helpful. It also helps to just look up career tests on the internet, because once you find a career that interests you, it’s MUCH easier to pick a major!
Don’t stress it. Most students change their major at least once in college. It’ll be much easier to decide whether or not a major is good for you once you’re taking classes. You’ll find your niche eventually.
Maybe use the summer to shadow some nurses and see if that’s really what you want to do for a career.
With the exception of a few careers, your major doesn’t necessarily dictate what you do for the rest of your life. Nursing is one of them - you need to have a nursing degree in order to be a nurse - but then again, there are a lot of transitional BSN programs for people with bachelor’s in other fields who want to transition to nursing. So the first thing you can do is release yourself from some of the anxiety inherent in this decision - you’re only deciding what you want to study for the next four years, not necessarily the direction of your life from here on out.
I agree that you should shadow some nurses. Also be aware that nursing has become very flexible field - although chances are you will begin being a medical/surgical nurse on the floor of a hospital, after a few years you can branch into other things, including combining nursing with business by being a nurse administrator.
I don’t know much about business, but my mom is an R.N. and she always says that what she like best about nursing was the variety. No two units are the same (NICU vs. pediatrics vs. surgical nursing vs. ICU vs. nursing homes). Before she had kids, she also was offered a teaching position (with only a bachelors). There is a TON of variety.
