Cannot fit all honors and ECs in..what do I do?

I have many ECs and honors...and...things that cross over.

I have commended national merit, AP scholar with distinction, Mu Alpha Theta...definitely goes under honors

ECs..... Varsity orchestra, Fencing

Community service....Friends of Rachel, worked at the junior olympics, and did fundraiser for Japan Tsunami

Then..I also have NHS (is that an EC, community service or honor?) French Honor Society (EC or honor? no community service but we do activities), Science Honor Society (some community service, could be honor too), English Honor Society (honor and community service).

To top it off..there are limits... 5 to honors and 10 to activities. Should I put NHS in activities instead of honors? I am quite involved in French and obviously NHS asks for a certain amount of community service, so should I put those under honors or activities?

Oh, and Regional and state orchestras...where would I put those? Should I just list that I do the school orchestra or make a separate entry (which I think I should find a way to put those separate since they are not WITH the school)?

I’m in the same boat as you. I just put them under additional info.

Combine activities whenever possible. Rank the importance before you put them on. If it still does not fit, put some in the additional information.

Our D put three honor societies all under one entry. It looks like this: “Honor Societies: National and Spanish (11, 12), Forensics League (9-12).”

Would you put honor societies under activities or honors? For a couple of them, they are more like just honors. But then a couple of them, I do a lot with, especially the French honor society.

Honors is the normal place, but a lot of folks don’t know that or don’t have space there or, like you, believe they are more than just honorary; so, many folks put them in activities. If you go with the honors section, you might consider something like this:

Honor Societies: National & English (11-12), French (10-12, 3 hrs/wk)

Make wise use of the space. If anything that can fit in the honor section, put it in there. It would be weighted more than activities. If you have other honors to fill in (limit 5), then put the honor society as activity.
