Two of the schools that I'm applying to have PROFILE deadlines of tomorrow. Problem is, my mom cannot afford to fork over $105 because she can barely pay the mortgage and numerous other bills. I'm not sure if we qualify for a fee waver (gross income is ~50,000).

Does the PROFILE allow one to send and pay for schools separately, or does everything need to be paid for at once? If the two schools that have deadlines tomorrow can be sent separately, she can afford it.

Will missing the deadline ruin my chances of getting adequate aid? :|

EDIT- Ahah, error in the title. No idea why I wrote "sent" instead of "send". Sorry about that!

Hope link works. It’s College Board’s student info.
Page 1 says you can ADD colleges at any time.
So it sounds like you can complete, select 2 colleges, submit.
Go back and add and submit to THOSE new colleges.
I’ve not personally done it but I’m sure many have, and will guide you.

If she puts it on a credit card it will postpone when she actually has to pay… effectively accomplishing the same thing as sending them out piecemeal.

At $50,000 I’m pretty sure you won’t qualify for a fee waiver. First year we filed for my son our income was mid-50K and we certainly didn’t. I didn’t expect to. 50K for a family is pretty close to an average income for an American family.

Definitely don’t miss deadlines. Don’t miss deadlines. Don’t miss deadlines.

Ughh. I showed her this thread, and now she’s uncertain that she can pay the $57 right now. I know that deadlines for the mortgage are important, but I cannot stand to miss deadlines. I told her that missing the deadline might decrease the aid that we receive, but she doesn’t seem to get it. ):

It might not only decrease it. It might make you completely ineligible, at least for aid coming directly from the college.

I don’t understand, though. How is it your mother would be making the payment? You can’t pay cash over the internet. Was she thinking of doing it on a debit card or a cash transfer from her checking account? No credit card?

But, hey, if you need to, choose your very best shot at aid at a school to which you feel a good chance of getting accepted, then just choose that one and get it sent. Borrow the money if you have to. To not file by the deadline because you can’t get $57 to file is totally shooting yourself in the foot. Hang on to $57 and lose the shot at thousands of dollars in financial aid?

I understand how tight money can get sometimes! Trust me, I do. My family has lived on air for long, long stretches of time. I get it. I do. However, you need to get it in before the deadline.

Good news! I followed R124687’s advice, and removed three colleges off of the list. My mom came downstairs and said she might be able to deposit some money so she can afford this + the mortgage. Turns out the registration fee was $9 instead of $25, so the total came out to $41 rather than $57! We just submitted it. =)

Thanks for all of the replies!

Hooray! Good job, nightpwnsj00!
