Can't cry?

Whenever I witness or hear something sad, a lot of the times I do feel sad, but I just can't let it go. Recently, I watched a movie that ended terribly, where the family lost their daughter to the jungle, the girl who had been pining for a guy her entire life discovered he was gay, the gay person is told that he is loved by the person he liked since childhood but he cannot be his boyfriend, the dad who lost his daughter has almost fatal liver damage, etc..

It ends with the loverless guy crying.

I felt so sad throughout the whole movie but I couldn't conjure up any tears. I read online that (not that I believe everything online) that if you don't cry in this movie, you have a heart of stone. Which I don't think I have.

Any else have this problem?

BTW the movie is called "The Love of Siam"

Different scenes tug at different ‘heart strings.’ Don’t ever feel the need to cry on purpose, or that if you don’t cry something is wrong.

Crying is obviously something to be avoided if possible. Crying indicates that you’re feeling completely overwhelmed by your emotion. Some people can handle more emotion without getting overwhelmed, that’s all.

You’re not alone Joeshie. I personally agree with FunStuff because it actually helps. You’re emotionally stronger and it will only help you in life. However, I can’t cry either, and I know you can feel sort of alone/weird sometimes. I actually think its because of habituation for lack of a better word. You’ve faced so much pain, either personally or witnessed it in entertainment or society, that you’ve created a wall. And although many may consider you to be heartless, you’re just stronger than everybody else. We take life on with a never back down attitude so look at the bright side lol

This is me.

I always feel so weird when everyone else is balling and I’m fake-crying. I’m pretty decent at fake-crying… but the tears never come… except when my father yells at me.

Weirdly enough though, I almost break into tears every day during my English class because there are some total *****es who like to say mean things.

…But at funerals and stuff… I can’t cry. It makes me feel emotionally lacking.

lol :D

10char

I’m pretty much a “cry slut” if there is one, and believe me I’ve been the handful of people not crying in a cinema full of people bawling. IDK, have you cried in other movies?

I believe that should be spelled ballin’

Or bawling :P.

But I completely agree with GuitarFreak. It is true that I have created a facade based on my past experiences, of which I have few memories of middle school, probably because I blocked out a lot of my past.

@AUGirl. This. Except I don’t cry during English class or when my father yells at me. When I learned my violin teacher died, someone who I had known for more than 7 years, I barely felt anything. It was very strange. And for some reason I did not get invited to the memorial recital that apparently all of his students were invited to. But yah, I understand how you feel.

@hanana Hmm… I haven’t really cried in other movies. I mean, there was a movie where someone unknowingly killed his lover while he actually thought that he was protecting her and I told myself that I was going to be depressed for like ever over this movie but I was only sad for like 3 days… But my friend watched it like 7 times and apparently he always cried at that scene.

I think the real question is, why would anyone want to watch the movie you just described?

xD That is a good question. People who like drama? And obviously a moviegoer would not know all the bad stuff beforehand (unless they read wikipedia or something).

Well Marion Mosby, people might be tricked into thinking that it is an interesting movie, and be slowly introduced to the sad stuff at just the right pace so that they do not turn off the TV.

Are you people seriously saying that a sad movie cannot be good?

@ AUgirl and hannah: I need to learn fake crying because even though I think not being able to cry is bad (I think it makes you stronger), people do find it very weird. For example, I was on a date last year and it was awesome until I told her I couldn’t cry. lol People think it’s so scary, like Chandler from Friends. lol

maybe it was just a bad movie

Thanks for ruining the movie I was planning on watching later tonight. (jk)

But the same happens for me, too. I just can’t seem to cry, which does kinda annoy me when I’m feeling not too happy. The only thing that’s made me cry was the end of Toy Story 3. Other than that, as hard as I try, I can’t do it.

Loool. I watched toy story 3 as well… And… I knew they were going to be saved because it was a kids movie. So that’s why i wasn’t sad in that movie.

Spoiler for all movies: THEY END. :O! OMG! xD
