Can't get up on time...

Man, Im glad this is a topic. I sleep so heavily I turn off my alarm without remembering it. Ive actually slept through a 11:00 class even after I went to bed at 12 the night before. Plus I nap like every other day. I feel as though I need like 12-15 hours of sleep in order to be normal and not sleepy. Its ridiculous. Ive had people stay at my place just to ensure I wake up on time for exams and have still been late even through their constant attempts to wake me up. I have no idea whats going on and I'm never sleepy till like 3-4 at night. Even after forcing myself to go to bed when Im not sleepy, Its never worked. No clue what I can do...

I feel the same way. I have 3 "extra-loud" alarm clocks and 3 alarms set on my cellphone, all with different ringtones and at the highest volume setting. A friend once stayed in my room to make sure we both woke up in time for class the next day. I'm told that I dispatched every one of my alarms and went back to sleep. Consistent sleep patterns are important, but they cannot account for this behavior. With all of the talk about "discipline," I feel rather hopeless.

Hey no fear man I've become a lot more disciplined about it lately. With the exception of one day, I've had a lot easier time getting up since I'm able to get to bed earlier. It's becoming somewhat easier to just hop in bed around 1 or 2 AM instead of 4 AM like I used to. Therefore I actually get up around 8 or 9 am when I need to.

adconard: Go to bed earlier. If you can't sleep, some things to try:
1. See the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. See the movie Lost In Translation
3. Read The Scarlet Letter

or read great expectations.....

You can get an alarm clock called "Sonic Boom" with a vibrating disc. It is made for the hearing impaired but could be helpful for anyone who has a hard time waking up. A lamp can also be pluged into it so that a light will flash when the alarm goes off. The vibrating disc can be placed under your pillow, however my daughter places it on the floor and when the alarm goes off the disc starts to clatter and makes a racket on the wood floors. The alarm has a varity of loudness and tone settings. I bought it at a store that specializes in devices for the hearing impaired, however it is available online at www.sonicalert.com

That sounds pretty cool there Ausmith. Im starting to think its just my dorm room. Even when my "resposible" friends come over to wake me up they too tend to sleep through an early class for their first time. I just have to bite the bullet this semester, I guess, and make sure I dont schedule anything earlier then like 12. Then again I almost slept through a 2:00 class a few weeks ago...

Ausmith.. thanks for bringing that to my attention. Normally I can wake up to my cell phone alarm but more recently thanks to some very bad sinus infections my hearing has been thrown off a bit. I've had to rely on my roommate to wake me up and I really want to get out of that habit.

I was going to get one of those things Ausmith suggested, but then decided that I would end up taking the vibrating thing and throwing it at the lamp :
