I missed my 3rd marketing (out of 5) class this morning, the class is at 805 AM MWF and I live off campus so I have to wake up around 7 in order to get ready and catch the school bus line to campus...

This is my first time having a morning class and I tried going to bed early but it doesnt seem to work, I just oversleep anyway.

I bought a new alarm and somehow I just get up and turn it off without remembering it.

I have to wake up at 6 AM and catch the 6:53 train so I can get to my 8 AM class in time. I have 2 classes directly after that one, so I have 3 classes back-to-back starting at 8.

In my 8 AM class, participation counts big time and the prof takes attendance everyday, so that's enough of a reason for me to wake up. I need good grades for Law school, and I'm not gonna get a B in what would otherwise be an easy-A core class because I overslept.

Reward yourself for getting out of bed early - usually I don't do fast food, but I usually hit up Dunkin or Starbucks for a sugary concoction before class :) If your class is boring, bring Sudoku, crossword, or whatever....it'll look like you're taking notes.

I usually place my alarm so that I can't reach it from bed. This means that you might want to place it on the far end of your desk, or somewhere else, where you'll have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. This has tended to work pretty well for me.

^^ I also do that. Place the alarm way across the room to shut if off.

My internal alarm clock is set at 7:30am, though. I wake up at that time, everyday, weekends included no matter what. So, I've never had trouble with early classes.

You could also try that three-hour sleeping rule.

I also would like to add that if you have an alarm clock that plays music, that might be helpful. I have an ihome and before I go to bed, i set my ipod to a really loud upbeat tune so it goes off in the morning and kinda wakes me up. if you don't have an ihome, try setting it so the radio goes off.

i have an old-fashioned bell alarm clock (really, really, really loud!!) as a backup (along with my cell phone alarm--two of them). i put it across the room so i have to get up to turn it off.

My alarm on my phone is really obnoxious. I set it for earlier than I actually need to so I can hit the snooze a few times. After the snooze has gone off like three times, there's no way I'm actually going back to sleep again because it's just annoying. Also make sure that you are actually getting enough sleep. Try taking some mild sleeping medication for a few nights so you can get into a routine (I have an 8am this semester and to get into the routine, the first few days of class, I took a dramamine* about 11pm every night, so I would conk out by midnight). Try to wake up at similar times on days even when you don't have the early class (like, you don't have to get up by 7 on the weekends, but don't sleep til noon Tues, Thurs, Sat, and Sun either. It makes it that much harder to go to bed earlier.

*dramamine is motion sickness medicine but it contains something which makes you extremely drowsy after about 1/2 an hour. It's a mild medication so it won't do anything to you if you only use it 2 or 3 days.

I have 8 am class everyday. I just go to bed at least by midnight and that is enough sleep for me to wake up at 7. Already, I have slipped up and "partied", heh, until late at night. The next day, I woke up at 7:30 but I knew that my attendance is important this year because I need to use this semester to apply for graduate school and I need recommendation letters from some specific professors, so that is my motivation. Also, I am able to sleep after class or just go to bed earlier that day.

I just use the alarm on my cellphone. That is enough to wake me up. I am the kind of person who can turn it off and go back to sleep (so, noises wake me up at night, but I easily fall back asleep. I'm quite easy.) so I just push "SNOOZE" instead of off. There have been a few times I pushed off and I'm not doing that again. LOL

Just try setting a uniform time to sleep and wake up. Your body will become so accustomed to it, you'll have your own biological clock getting you up every morning.

Wow, you guys are lucky. I have to wake up at 5:30, then take the 6:30 train to make it to my 8:00 class :( I set the cell phone alarm on because it's louder than a regular alarm clock. Use a tune you like and set it on high, that should wake you up LOL. Also, try if you can to sleep early the night before. It's hard sometimes although because I get home like at 10:00pm >.<

Set one for about 7. You'll turn that one off for sure/snooze button.
set another one about 5 minutes later. then this one and the first one will go off together REALLY annoying you.

What I do is I just set my phone alarm two times. One at around 9 and another one around at 9:10 and so on. I usually get up on the first one but if I didn't, I get up my the 2nd alarm.

I set one much earlier than needed, so I wake up. I turn on the light, and then go to bed again - it's way easier to wake up with the lights on..
Alex.

8 AM doesn't sound too bad, when compared my current situation in high school. 7:15 AM late bell and a 1 hour bus ride means I have to wake up around 5 AM to make the bus at 6:20 AM.

I agree with everyone else: place the alarm FAR away from bed. If I can reach it from bed, I barely need to wake up to turn it off. And I am NOT a morning person. An annoying sound helps too: I set the alarm on my cell phone to play I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry. Really loud. I fly out of bed just to turn that **** off.

Place your alarm clock ACROSS the room, as far away from your bed as possible. I missed three classes my second week of college because I kept shutting off my alarm while I was asleep. Also, setting one alarm for, say 7, and another for 7:05 is helpful if you tend to walk right back to bed and pass out again.

I usually set both my cell alarm and my clock alarm. Works wonders (haven't missed a class since).
