I'm a junior who is going to take the sat in december. I have taken 6 or 7 practice tests, but I can't get over a 2150. What have you guys done to improve? Also, which books are the best? Thanks!

Are you talking about SAT I or Sat II? For Sat I the only suggestion I can give you is to practice, practice, and practice some more. Don’t trust those tutoring schools which cost thousands of bucks. One of my friend who scored really high on both SAT I and II didn’t go to any tutoring school at all. For SAT I, she was at a level about 21x0 a month before the exam. Then she got up at 6 o’clock to do a practice exam everyday for that whole month. Eventually she got 2340 on the real thing. So don’t worry. Your mark will improve as long as you study.

For SAT I books, I recommend Kaplan’s and Gruber’s. Kaplan’s tests are slightly easier than the real SAT but don’t just go for a book because of it’s difficult. I know a lot of people like Barron’s but that book has a lot of mistakes. Many of the questions Barron’s ask are pretty ambiguous and the logic in the reading passages is sorta different from the real thing.

What are your section subscores?

For writing, The Elements of Style is the best thing to read, hands-down. It’s clever, it’s concise, it’s almost perfectly tailored to the material on the SAT, and there’s even an illustrated edition available :)

I think Writing is half luck. I somehow jumped like 50 points on my re-take to a 770. Same essay score. I studied 0 seconds for it… stupid CB.
