Can't link Naviance to Common App

As I understood, Naviance is supposed to link you to the Common App with ease. However, I've been trying to get Naviance to work in conjunction with my Common App forms for over a month to no avail. I've researched and found that there should be an option to add or connect a recommendation or your account on the 'My Colleges -> Colleges I'm Applying To' section of Naviance. However, when I go to do that, I see nothing. There's no option to add schools I'm applying to. My Common App works fine, but this is what's really bothering me, because I need to get my recommendations out now. My GC hasn't been of any help, either. If anyone has any answers, they would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!

I just checked my son’s Naviance. He has not added any colleges yet.

When you check colleges I’m applying to, immediately comes up a page that you type your common ap password and ID in to. That must be how naviance and the common app hook up. He hasn’t done his yet. Doesn’t that page come up?

I assume after you do that then you can select colleges.

i’m having the same issue. My counselor told us to put random stuff in the section last year.
Did that mess me up then?

Systematik - The reason you can not add to your Colleges I am Applying to list is becasue your school has not given you access to add to the list. Your school will need to update the Family Connection Features to allow you to add schools to your list.

Also you will need to complete the Common App waiver with your Common App username and password. You school will also have to turn on this feature.

BlackRose101 - If you school allows you to you can delete the colleges you put in your list last year. To delete a college on your Colleges I am Applying to list please log into your Family Connection account > click on Colleges tab > click on Colleges I am Applying to > check the box next to the college you would like to delete > click on the Delete Application button at the bottom.

Navsupport - thanks a lot

Is it possible to add the colleges I am applying to even without completing the waiver section? (assuming the waiver details will be added later)

Is the colleges I am applying to section linked to Common app or this can be filled independent of the information in common app?

A very basic question - can common app be filled in separately or does it have to be filled via Naviance?

Is the colleges I am applying to section editable or is it kind of fixed and need to be filled only after the list is final?

How to move the colleges i am applying to TO colleges I am thinking about?

Is the common app id the only link between naviance and common app - how do the transcripts get sent to colleges via naviance ?

For example, when berkeley is added in the “apply” list, it immediately states some materials have already been submitted even without any updates. any idea why?

the application gets submitted by the applicant. The forms get submitted by the counsellor via Naviance. How are both these items linked by the receiving colleges?

Sorry for so many questions. thanks in advance for your replies.

Is it possible to add the colleges I am applying to even without completing the waiver section? (assuming the waiver details will be added later)
I don’t know.

Is the colleges I am applying to section linked to Common app or this can be filled independent of the information in common app?
You must fill it in separately.

**A very basic question - can common app be filled in separately or does it have to be filled via Naviance? **
Filled in separately.

Is the colleges I am applying to section editable or is it kind of fixed and need to be filled only after the list is final?
Editable, you can change it as many times as you like!

How to move the colleges i am applying to TO colleges I am thinking about?
Right now, I don’t think it’s possible. You only can move from colleges I’m thinking about to colleges I’m applying to, opposite of what you said. You just need to manually add it if you change your mind.

Is the common app id the only link between naviance and common app - how do the transcripts get sent to colleges via naviance?
I think it’s the only link. That’s why you need to list your school on the colleges I’m applying to section so that your school can send the transcripts electronically to the ones you’ve listed.

Therefore, if you’ve listed school A, B, C on Naviance and school X, Y, Z on Common App, you won’t have an application for all of them.

For example, when berkeley is added in the “apply” list, it immediately states some materials have already been submitted even without any updates. any idea why?
Um, I don’t know as well. Mine says that too.

the application gets submitted by the applicant. The forms get submitted by the counsellor via Naviance. How are both these items linked by the receiving colleges?
They match your name and information.

Thanks so much 082349. Extremely useful and to the point replies! Thanks again.

So, what do you need to fill in the waiver?

When should the “request for transcripts” be filled?

How are the recommendations sent via naviance? Does the applicant have no role to play there and is it automatically done by the school?

Does the applicant’s job end after filling the common app and paying the fee and by just adding those college names in naviance?

Does Berkeley accept online forms via Naviance or does it have to be post?

So, does that mean one needs to create the common app id even before adding the colleges in naviance waiver and cannot add colleges applying to till then?

Just noticed naviance allows to add the colleges applying to even without the waiver details. So, is it wrong to add those like that? Should they be deleted and the waiver filled and re-added?

I can’t answer any questions about the waiver because my school doesn’t allow that. (We have other measures in place).

When should the “request for transcripts” be filled?
I don’t know because my school does it differently.

**How are the recommendations sent via naviance? Does the applicant have no role to play there and is it automatically done by the school? **
You don’t really need to know how it’s done… It just gets sent to those schools you’ve listed in the applying to section. That’s why the schools you’ve listed on the Common App and Naviance must be the same. Your school does it.

You should see the following on Common App if you have linked your Naviance account correctly:
For transcripts, school reports and teacher recommendations, your school is using Naviance eDocs. Please contact your counselor directly and they will provide instructions specific to your school regarding these documents. Once your counselor and teachers submit their school forms you will be able to view their status here.

Does the applicant’s job end after filling the common app and paying the fee and by just adding those college names in naviance?
Yes, and filling in the supplements for each school. Your school will do the rest.

Does Berkeley accept online forms via Naviance or does it have to be post?
If you’re applying to any UC school, just list them down in the colleges I’m applying to section. Then, from November 1 to 30, because that’s when the UC portal opens, complete your UC application. Your school will find a way to get the transcripts to them by mail or online. Don’t worry, they will.

UC Portal: [University of California - Apply online](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/how-to-apply/apply-online/index.html)
You may access the essay questions there as well.

So, does that mean one needs to create the common app id even before adding the colleges in naviance waiver and cannot add colleges applying to till then?
I’m not very sure about this waiver thing as I said earlier… I could add colleges before I created a Common App ID so I think it’s possible.

Just noticed naviance allows to add the colleges applying to even without the waiver details. So, is it wrong to add those like that? Should they be deleted and the waiver filled and re-added?
I have no idea.

Just to add. My son’s Common app had that paragraph in the teacher rec section.

For transcripts, school reports and teacher recommendations, your school is using Naviance eDocs. Please contact your counselor directly and they will provide instructions specific to your school regarding these documents. Once your counselor and teachers submit their school forms you will be able to view their status here.

However, his GC said that they school does not want the students to have to ask for their teacher recs through Naviance and turned that feature off. I think it now has the regular wave your rights page to see the recs instead. My son has not requested any teachers yet so don’t know what the next screens ask for.

So schools can turn on and off whether the teacher recs go through Naviance or not. I imagine they can do the same with transcripts requests.

Okay, now I have a question of my own.

If I linked my Common App and Naviance account wrongly, how do I change it? Is there any way to change it?

^ While linking, does it not check if the common app user id is valid. ArenÂ’t you entering the common app id AND the password in the naviance to start with. That being the case, wonÂ’t it check if the combination is valid before linking which means it cannot be linked wrong IMO.

Anyone else, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

It does not. That’s why I’m asking the question. My friend linked hers wrongly.

How do you know it does not?

how does your friend know she linked wrongly - can she view what she linked in the settings?

Also, is there a way to check WHAT commonapp user name/pwd was linked to the naviance from any settings or something like that?

Above, someone asked about submitting transcripts to UC Berkeley via Naviance.

Berkeley and all of the University of California schools do not ask for transcripts! You self-report your courses and grades on the UC application. After you are admitted and have decided to attend, you submit a final transcript in June showing all of your high school courses and grades through the end of senior year.

Berkeley, and all of of the UC schools, also do not accept recommendations.

Therefore, there is nothing to submit via Naviance to Berkeley or any of the UC’s, and that is why no forms show up in your Naviance student account when you enter a UC school.

Hope this helps clarify. The UC admissions website (link above) has very detailed information about the UC application process.

Good luck to everyone!

If the common app info you input was incorrect, your counselor needs to sign in, pull up your account, go to the edocs tab, and click on “reset consent” . Once you do that, the next time you sign in, it will ask for the common app username and password again.

How does one figure out if it was input correctly or not? SAy, there was a keyboard error and one is not aware that it was typed wrong, how to decipher?

Hmm, I just realized mine doesn’t have that either.

Hi on a mac it does not seem possible to select the box to the left to delete a college from the application list.
