Can any of you share information regarding the differences between these Tisch studios? When you compare each studio’s curriculum on line there are a lot of similarities. Thanks so much!

I should probably clarify that we printed the curriculum for both studios from the web site and compared them side by side. Contrary to the other studios, that seem to have a real clear different direction/objective, CAP21 and Strassberg both offer singing and dance (along with acting of course), albeit it that CAP21 offers private voice and is more specific in their offering of dance classes (ballet, jazz, tap). I understand though that CAP21 is considered the only MT Studio, so now I am just confused as it appears that Strassberg also offers all elements of an MT study. Can anyone help?

Hi-- I'm a current freshman in Strasberg so hopefully I can help you out.

I think the biggest difference is the time spent in the so-called "MT" subjects. We only have 2 hours a week of Singing and Dance; I would assume CAP has quite a bit more. In addition, as you mentioned, CAP has private voice. Its dance classes are also split up into skill level, whereas Strasberg dance classes are not. I know a lot of people who supplement these classes with private lessons within Tisch/Steinhardt or outside of NYU entirely.

That said, a lot of CAP auditioners that are OK with acting studios seem to end up at Strasberg if rejected from CAP but are admitted to the straight acting division, probably because it is the "acting" studio with the most MT training.

My S is in 3rd year of Cap21, 3 full studio days a week, 9 - 6, dance in jazz, tap, ballet, all separate. 3 levels in year 1 and 2, 2 levels in year 3 in dance. Acting, vocal, dance classes. Two additional university classes a semester on the other 2 days. Normally CAP is only 3 years. Last eyar, the 3rd years asked for a 4th year and it has been very successful. My S thinks his class will ask for a 4th year as well.

september, do you have any knowledge about the meisner extension? really, just anything.. what the students are up to.. if they like it?
