I know many CCers will be going to NYU in the fall to one of the studios that is not tisch. I was wondering what the musical theatre opportunities are at the other studios (class, performances, seniore shocases). I know most of them require some sort of dance and voice but I have no idea what the intensity of it is. If anyone has info on strasberg's undergrad program that would be helpful because I've trained there and know at least for now that I like the method.

babygiraffeboots, (love your name :)), all of the studios are Tisch. Tisch's drama department consists of several studios, one of which is CAP21 which is the MT studio. Just to clarify that so that you and others aren't confused.

As far as MT opportunities for students in other studios, many non-Cap kids audition and are cast in gap shows at Tisch. These are the student-driven productions and they're excellent! I'll let Susan talk about the CAP specific shows because she knows more about those than I do. In the Tisch mainstage shows, any Tischie can audition.

Classes are specific to studio so you would not be taking MT CAP studio classes if you're in Strasberg, or the other studios. However, most studios include movement classes, some include specific dance classes, most include voice which in some includes singing. There are Steinhardt classes which Tischies can enroll in for different types of voice and dance (two credit classes, I believe). There is also an abundance of opportunities for private vocal and dance lessons on campus and in the city, but this would obviously be additional $$.

I'd recommend you look at Tisch's drama website and look at the different studios and their posted suggested curriculum. This will answer many of your questions about what types of classes are taken in each. The approach of each studio is different and the intensity can vary.
