Has anyone had any experience with CAP consultations? My daughter is a junior and we were thinking about signing up with them mostly to have access to CAP United auditions next year, but it looks like you have to sign up for a consultation package to be able to do the CAP auditions. Are the coaching sessions good? Any experiences anyone can share would be appreciated!
Dave Clemmons (DCCAP) is awesome. D is a junior as well and we are already using him to get a head start on things. I know little of the other coaches.
@MTDad2025 Thanks! I think we’re going to join them soon. I feel like this is the first real step we’re taking in this crazy college audition process! My D is excited to get the ball rolling. Do you feel like you get honest feedback from them? I’m interested to get outside opinions on her talent that aren’t the voice teachers/theatre directors that we’ve worked with for quite a while.
I certainly do, @ARBMusTheatre. My D has had the chance to work with Dave when he led HSMT at TUTS in Houston (as well at his summer intensive, TPAP) so he has a pretty good idea of where she stands talentwise, but based on the range of schools his students get into, he appears to have each focus on a realistic set of options. And Dave freely admits he holds no punches on sending back video pre-screens that are not ready in his opinion. I assume he would use similar honesty in initially assessing a prospective high schooler’s strengths and areas to work on.
