CAP program of UT Austin (UTSA)

Hi, I will be doing the cap program of UT Austin at UT San Antonio this fall. I am interested to be admitted to UT’s McCombs business school and have the following questions and I hope u could help.

I would like to pay my tuition as early as possible so I could start register for classes. How could I get UTSA to send me the bill for tuition so I could pay.

  1. when can I start register for classes?
I read on the UTSA website that I have to attend the 3 days orientation, otherwise, I will not be allowed to register for classes. Is it possible for me to register for classes without attending the orientation?

  2. it is hard for me to do the 3 days orientation. If I must attend the orientation, can I just attend one of the three days.

  3. I understand that I must take cal 1, cal 2, macro and micro economics, but I still have to take 6 other courses to make up the 30 credit hours required by the cap program. Would u please recommend 6 relevant courses. What consideration should I give before picking a course?

  4. are there prerequisites for cal 1, cal 2, macro and micro economics?

  5. what kind of test or tests I have to take before I could be accepted to attend classes at UTSA. How do I prepare for these tests?

  6. I would like to join study groups with other students who are also interested in the UT McCombs, where can I find these students?

  7. I understand it takes a GPA of 3.9 or better to be admissible to UT’s McCombs business school. if I fail to be admitted to McCombs, what GPA does it take to be admitted to the economic department?

Thank u in advance for ur help,
Yuki

I suggest that you refer to this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19684817#Comment_19684817 for #4. There is no prerequisite for Micro & Micro but you have to pass whatever math placement test UTSA has or have Trigonometry or Pre-Cal done. A 3.85+ GPA is preferred for McCombs, or at least that’s what I was told. For other stats, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1913838-2016-2017-ut-austin-transfer-thread-p25.html should help.

  1. You register for classes at orientation. Paying in advance will not let you register for classes early. You must meet with an advisor to go through course selection.
  2. Read answer 1.
  3. Ask UT.
  4. Take all core classes that apply to any major at UT. Government, English, and history are pretty typical first semester courses. You need to create a back up plan in case you aren't accepted into McCombs. Econ + business is a popular choice.
  5. You need to test into Calc 1 on your math placement test.
  6. Math placement and any other things. I know if you have AP Gov credit, you'll have to take a government test too. Spanish fluency tests in case you want to test out of lower level Spanish.
  7. Not sure. Business fraternities?
  8. The GPA cut off changes every year. Econ takes a lower average GPA. I'd venture to say the 3.6 range.
