Are these thing a scam? It just seems sketchy to me because a student could just make up their stats and they just give them a scholarship because they "appear" promising.

Cappex is legitimate, but you’re right about the iffiness.

The scholarship is essentially a raffle so the stats don’t matter.

It reminds me of the FastWeb promotion scholarships. While they might be a legit company, the scholarship looks iffy because of the criterion.

If you really want to find legit scholarship money, you should try [MoreThanGrades - Home](http://www.morethangrades.com) They have a unique search engine that allows users to find scholarships offered by colleges. There is even a way to limit the search and find scholarships in a specific geographic region or major. New members also receive a free ebook with helpful suggestions on how to navigate the financial aid maze.

Thanks, I applied for like 5 of them.

And I think I’ll try that MoreThanGrades thing.

Cappex is not a scam and neither are the Cappex scholarships. As with any legitimate scholarship, Cappex would make sure the winner’s grades, scores etc. are authentic before actually awarding them the scholarship. On top of that, the scholarship money is not directly given to the student, but to the college they intend or hold it until they enroll.

Cappex also has a massive database of non-Cappex scholarships. If you complete a Cappex profile, you can see all of your scholarship matches–very easy.

Completing the Cappex profile also makes you eligible for any of the Cappex scholarships [Scholarships - College Scholarships](Find Scholarships for College Students: Scholarship Database | Cappex)

The more complete the profile, the better.
