On Wednesday, I was involved in my first car accident, as I rear-ended another car.

I was in a right-turn yield lane. There was a tow truck in front of me, and I assumed he pulled out of the yield lane and made his turn, so I started to look to my left to see when I should make my turn. But, a second later, I heard a thud, as I bumped into the tow truck which was still in the lane. The hood of my car crumpled, but there was no damage whatsoever to the tow truck since my car hit the steel metal beam in the back of the truck. Luckily, no one was hurt and the guy in the two truck was really chill about what had happened. He told me that he had seen worse and we just joked about the thing until the police arrived.

The accident is definitely my fault. There really is no excuse for hitting something that is in front of me... I got a ticket for inattentive driving and I am planning on pleading "no contest." I have the police report and I have a court date set, but it is not until January after all of my college applications are due.

On the Common App, it says to list if I have been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime. Do I have to list this car accident down? Is this a misdemeanor? I think inattentive driving would just be a traffic violation, right? It does not go on criminal history or anything. I think it would be silly to check off that box on the Common App, when that same box is used by kids who stole from stores, assaulted people, or committed more serious offenses.
