<p>A thread on the USAFA Forum was asking about car insurance for the new plebes etc. This is a question that each of the parents will face after their S or D enter the academy. I am sure some of our other parents have some great suggestions as well, but here is some useful information that I posted on their Forum and thought might be useful for some of our incoming plebes and their parents:</p>
<p>"For those families that have USAA car insurance, they have a special coverage for dependents who are attending any of the service academies. Basically, if you inform them that your son or daughter is attending the academy (at least the 1st 3 years that they don't have a car), they will stay on your policy and be allowed to use your car at home while on leave, but you will not be charged extra for this minimal coverage. This saves you a fortune, but gives you the peace of mind to know that they are covered during those short breaks. BTW, they insist that you keep them on the policy, otherwise, in the event an accident, you are both covered, especially for a potential major liability. I m not an agent for them, but have used them for 30 years and do recommend that the cadets consider using them when they graduate from the academy because of their reasonable rates to officers and their worldwide coverage."</p>
