I'm a Norcal student entering UCI in fall 2006. I really want to bring a car, but I'm not sure how much time I'll have.

Here's a general question:
Should a freshman in a dorm have a car? What is your opinion?

Are you used to having your own car to get around? If so, and if UCI lets freshmen bring cars, I would. I think you'd find having one a great convenience. I wouldn't say that about many schools, but at UCi you really need to drive to get anywhere off campus.

It's not a necessity, but it makes life much easier. I went my freshman year without a car and ended up bumming rides all the time and it was tough being at the mercy of someone else's schedule.

Yeah you won't need it but it'll be useful. Bring it if you can.

You might as well considering UCI is a commuter school. There won't be much to do on weekends when everyone else goes back home or goes out for recreation.

You definetly need a car. Irvine is very spread out and nothing is close together. A car is a neccessity

I'm in electrical engineering, and I'm shooting for a high GPA for grad school. Considering EE is pretty hard, will I even have time to make use of a car? It's about $1,600 a year if I bring my car (maybe less if I drive only weekends).

definitely bring a car

i am bringing mine. how much is parking for three quarters?

think about it, u can charge people to take them anywhere in your car....by the end of the year u will have made MUCH profit.

I'm afraid charging would not be a good idea. People may get ****ed at me overtime, and I'm too nice of a guy to ensure everyone pays. Parking for three quarters is about $560. If you pump like 40 bucks every two weeks, the total would be about $1600 (maybe less) a year. I highly doubt I'll drive a lot weekdays like I do now, so I'll pump about 10 gallons every two weeks.

i'll be driving on 405 probably every night...for fun.

The 405.....everyone loves the 405........worst freeway ever.

No, the 91 is the worst - i commute that every day :(

Bring a car - you need to it move around town - with it, you can hit Hollywood, San Diego, Oceanside/San Clemente, Los Angeles, Tijiuana, etc.. - lets just say no matter how hard you think things will be in terms of school, you will ALWAYS have time to drive somewhere - even if its to the beach to study. Itll keep your options open when you get bored on the weekends (if and when it does).

I think the general conclusion to UCI students from far away is to BRING A CAR.

yes yes.....norcal guys have to bring their cars so they can take out girls who didn't bring their cars.

Also, if you don't bring your car, all the cool Asians with Integras will point and laugh at you--right, integratypeR? :D

that is correct oyama.

I'm bringing a Volvo (if my parents let me). Eat my Swedish car Asians!

Dang. Rolling up in safety. \m/ >_< \m/ HxCorreeeee

Just walk...>_> haha
