My family is saving up for a car. Although, I'm wondering if any current students actually use their car often. Should I bring a car for my first-year?

No you don’t need it

How so?

10char

Well if you are saving up for a car you have to remember its ~80$ a month to keep your car at UCI, so it’s not exactly cheap.

define need.

All your necessities are available on campus via on-foot.

A lot of the activities will be held on campus, and if not, rides will be provided for freshmen especially.

You will be asked for rides, throughout the year.

Public transportation will suffice.

Not only its ~80$ a month, there’s gas to be considered. I would not recommend bringing a car just yet, otherwise you will find ‘friends’ be asking you to take them places all the time. Maybe on your second year, that’s the time people do realize a car is needed.

Need as in driving to an off-campus job and going home to visit my family/in case of emergency.
