Hi all, I currently have an undergraduate degree in computer engineering with a math minor. I was wondering how common it is for someone to change careers to vet school, as opposed to going straight through from pre-vet in undergrad. I've heard of people going back to med school or law school but never vet school.

I don't have much background in college biology so I understand that I'd likely have to take a few classes first, but just wondering how feasible it is. My undergrad GPA was 3.5.

I am currently working as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry. I volunteer at a no-kill shelter and have at least 100 hours logged to date.

I’m not too sure… you’re best bet would be to contact the admissions department at which ever schools you are interested in and ask what you would need to do. I’m assuming you took some chemistry and physics in your engineering field. They require quite a bit of chemistry (both general, and organic) as well as physics, and, of course, biology.

That will give you almost all the vet schools requirements in the world… Good luck!

I am a nurse, graduated with a bachler of science in nursing in 1989. Took biology, chemistry–org and inorganice-2 semesters, Anatomy and physiology-2 semesters, nutrition, etc. However that was in 1989. Always wanted to be a vet but did not get in at Univ of Penn and so instead went to Temple U for nursing. Now 47—money is issue as dtr in college-single parent–but stilll dreaming. Had a high GPA but again–21 yrs ago. Know I did not get into vet scool 21 yrs ago because my test scores. Wondering if I took some science classes over and did well on GRE-could I get finacial aid and even get into vet school? And then, at my age, is it worth it? I would be working all the way thru. Does it make sense at my age? appreciate any feedback
