Career change --->

So a big congratulations goes out to me as I finally decided to get an MBA instead of going into law. Now before I begin, I know 90% off CC-ers are overachievers who believe in T14 or bust. Im not one of them, so I hope I can get some advice along those lines.

Recently I have been visiting a few schools and looking into their MBA programs. The schools I am looking into are not top 100, not even top 200. However my main goal is to just transition out of the horrible field I am in. Something that can get my foot in the door, I have that drive in business and I regret not majoring in it during undergrad. I have never taken a business course during undergrad, however for accounting one of the programs did give me the option to complete a few undergrad courses in accounting and based on my performance in those courses they will decided if I get accepted into the accounting program. In any case, management/finance is always my next and only option.

Now I want to go into accounting/finance. Please tell me if my research is correct and feel free to add on:

Accounting: safe bet no matter what school you go to, procedural, if in auditing-extensive traveler, long hours, decent entry level job even with an MBA

Finance: some creativity required, jobs here are usually commensurate based on experience

Now if I go to a non-top 200 MBA program, do you think an MBA in accounting/finance can help me secure a 50K job starting at least? Obviously with some solid work years under my belt I can get to 70K in 5-7 years post MBA.

Also I heard that when you graduate with an MBA, you must have the credit hourse to sit in for the CPA exam. Now do you have to take the CPA exam if you have no plans on going into public accounting? Is that mandatory??? Im a little confused because I have been reading and hearing conflicting information.

Its a long post, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I have my reasons of getting an MBA and I think they're really strong, Im willing to go that extra mile this time even if it takes blood, sweat, and tears if you will. Just dont want to make that same mistake I made during undergrad, by majoring in two useless subjects only to find myself at a dead-end job.

Thanks!
