<p>I'm interested in pursuing a career in holistic/alternative/complementary medicine, but I don't know what to major in to do this. My university doesn't offer such majors. I thought maybe nutrition would be closest but it doesn't offer that either. </p>
<p>Safety and effectiveness should still be the bottom-line, whether conventional medicine or its alternatives are the means of healing. So meet the pre-requisities to pursue a licensed health profession. In addition, other areas of study that might relate to your interests include:
For natural products/nutrition therapies (in lieu of a nutrition major): chemistry & biochemistry, physiology, botany
For meditation/yoga/Chinese medicine/acupuncture: Chinese language, philosophy, religion; South Asian Studies; psychology; religion
Manipulative & Body-based Therapies: martial arts, exercise science, kinesiology, dance, physical therapy
Traditional Therapies: cultural/medical anthropology, Native American Studies, folklore
General: certain aspects of History of Science/History of Medicine</p>
