I am going to be attending UCLA as a Business-Economics major. In the future (as of now) I would really love to start up my own company. If this is the case, should I switch to an engineering field so I can develop a marketable product? What kind of company could one start with a Business-Economics major?
If you want to start a business you need to identify a problem and find a profitable way to solve it. It doesn’t actually matter what your major is. If you look at a profile of business owners in the U.S. you won’t find any consistent pattern in what they studied in college or even whether they went to college. Major in something that you find interesting or useful and keep thinking.
Look for entrepreneurship clubs in college and consider signing up for case competitions and other opportunities to sharpen your innovative and critical thinking skills.
