This might not be the best place to ask, but I figure some of you have probably considered alternatives and might be able to help.

Law has many traits that I would look for in an ideal career - I love work that requires critical thinking and problem solving, I enjoy a challenge, I don't mind having to research cases or do book work, I like working with people and helping others, I like variety, I enjoy studying relevant fields (history, political science, economics, English).

But I don't want to go to law school. Debt is the big concern, and my grades (although good!) are not quite excellent enough to get into a high enough ranked school to off-set the costs. I'll keep law school on the table as a consideration, but I just feel very uncomfortable with the idea of racking up $100k in tuition when I know that I probably won't be getting any of the top jobs to pay the debt off.

So I'm wondering - what other careers would be good fits for those interested in law? Or, alternately, what would be your second choice career, if you had to do something else?
