Carleton College Chances ED I applicant

I loved Carleton College when I visited and plan on applying Early Decision I. It would be great if you could provide some insight into my chances of admission.

I go to the 2nd ranked public school in Massachusetts, and have a weighted GPA of 3.71 however this does not fully reflect my ability, as I broke my hip last year which negatively affected my grades ( I speak of this in the Common App). I have taken a pretty rigorous class load and have gotten A's and B's throughout. I am currently taking three science courses including AP Chem and being a teachers assistant for Biology. Financial aid will also not be an issue.

My SAT scores are CR:690 M:700 W:670
My recommendations should be excellent and my essays are great as well. I interviewed with an alumni which went well.

Outside of school I am the captain of the cross country ski team, played soccer for three years (where i broke my hip) and have played frisbee for the past three years and will again. I work at a ski lodge in the winter, at an ice cream store year round, and as a overnight camp counselor for 7 weeks in the summer. I also participated in an elite engineering seminar last semester.

Thanks!

Your numbers look good. Make sure your essay is good, and I would hesitate to blame too much of your grades on the broken hip. Adversity happens to everyone, but many people manage to work through it. To me, it would look like you were trying to make excuses, which would speak negatively towards your character, especially for a place like Carleton where you’re expected to put academics ahead of everything.

I would agree with Clevelandude. I suffer from Crohn’s disease and miss high school regularly for treatment. I do not let this affect my grades. Everybody has something that gets in the way.

Putting that aside however you sound like you have a good chance! =)

Show the love. I’ve got to root for a Nordic skiing (non-Norwegian?) Northeasterner. URM?
