Carleton Summer Science Institute Questions:

-is this a legitimate research program? It has only been held for 3-4 years, so there are not many threads on it yet.
-it is relatively short (20 days) compared to other residential programs like COSMOS. can you get meaningful research/lab experience done within such a short period?
-tuition is very expensive: $3,350 plus a plane ticket to Minnesota that would cost at least another $1000 (keep in mind the duration is only from july 17 to august 5...are they only trying to get money?)

Alumni:
Describe your experience at the program.

Any pos/neg feedback?

How was the research compared to other programs you have participated in?

Did you work closely with a mentor/professor, or did you spend the entire 3 weeks observing someone else performing the actual research?

Did you learn a lot from the program and would you recommend it to someone else?

I have an urgent question regarding the scholarship application:
The website states that scholarships are based on academic merit, financial obligations and college potential, so if my family earns a high enough income to disqualify me from typical financial aid, should I still apply for the scholarship (there is a section that asks for any other family members that are supported by the family income at this moment, and I did mention that I have an older sibling who will attend college in the fall without scholarship aid, if that makes a difference).

There was also a question that asked if the applicant qualified for a reduced lunch. If Carleton even listed that option in a yes/no format, is it implying the possibility of selecting a scholarship recipient based more on academic merit?

I was just wondering if the way they asked questions about household income and other details meant that they are willing to grant scholarships even if the applicant does not qualify for financial aid.
