Carlson vs. UW Madison but not in their undergraduate business school?

I got accepted into Carlson which is awesome! But I didn’t really get a great vibe of the campus and it’s really close to my hometown. Meanwhile, I also got accepted into UW Madison, but have to wait to apply for their undergrad business school until the middle of my freshman year. Any advice or insights?

How committed to attending the business school are you - would you be okay with other majors at Madison?

I second @MYOS1634’s question – Madison is changing the way they do business school admissions, from most students applying as a freshman/sophomore with a few getting direct admit, to most students getting direct admit and a few applying their fresh/soph year. (This is what I was told at an Admitted Business Student sesh at Madison this spring). This means that getting into the business school as a fresh/soph will probably be much more difficult than before. My opinion has always been that if you are set on majoring in business and you don’t get direct admit at Madison, especially now, you should go somewhere you can be sure you’ll be able to major in business, but if you’re willing to take the risk and potentially major in something else, go ahead.

Our oldest daughter graduated from UW’s business school with an accounting degree last Spring, and loved it. Her admission was when it was rare to receive a direct admit to Wisconsin’s business school; she applied as a freshman for sophomore acceptance. She applied to MN and was accepted to Letters and Sciences, but not to Carlson. If you go the Wisconsin route, make sure you have a high performance freshman year and get to know the business school during freshman year. Madison is a great school and experience, and the business school prepared our daughter very well. I am sure Carlson ranks right with UW or maybe higher. Congratulations, and be proud of your admission to each school!
