Why do I choose Carnegie Mellon? How could I possibly not? I know for sure that Carnegie Mellon will offer me one of the best education qualities found among all the universities in the world. With such outstanding ratings and rankings in every subject, it would be foolish of me to not have CMU at the top of my list of college choices. While I strongly believe in the great academic opportunities that are available at Carnegie Mellon, there are several reasons why this school has greatly intrigued me.
One element that I look for in colleges is the student life that they provide on campus. While I was on CMU’s website, I couldn’t help but to wander over to the “Student Life” page. I read through the page and quickly began to learn about the campus life a student can expect to experience at Carnegie Mellon. What really grasped my interest was finding out that Carnegie Mellon’s campus offers 130 student organizations! It appeared too good to be true, so I further researched the kinds of organizations and clubs that are available to the students. As I looked at what seemed to be an endless list of clubs and activities, I learned that there was an organization for almost everything I could think of. I was incredibly impressed to learn about the massive variety of organizations that includes fraternities, sports, gaming clubs, and everything in between.
Something else I love about Carnegie Mellon is the diversity of the students there. Since I am not a Pittsburgh or even a Pennsylvania native, it is comforting to know that other students are new to the place as well, just like me. I find that CMU has a strong student community where I can interact with not new classmates, but with new friends. Carnegie Mellon is the place where I know that I will feel at home, while being away from home.
Not only am I intrigued by the campus life at CMU, but I find that the location of CMU in the city of Pittsburgh is just as perfect. Pittsburgh is an abundant source of entertainment for students. With sports teams like the Steelers and the Pirates and captivating sights to see at the parks and museums, I feel that there would never be a dull moment in my life. What else is great about living in Pittsburgh is that there is no need for college students to have their own vehicles because this amazing city provides multiple means of public transportations such as buses, cabs, and Zipcars.
Going back to the academic opportunities at Carnegie Mellon, I feel that CMU is the best school for my major. With a school specifically for Computer Science, I will be able to focus on my major at Carnegie Mellon better than I would anywhere else. Also, CMU’s outstanding student-to-faculty ratio ensures that student-professor interaction will be much easier and more common than it would be at other schools. Another reason I am interested in CMU is because it is one of the world’s leading research universities where the students are given several opportunities to become involved with research on various subjects.
Like many other high school students, I was not sure of what I wanted to major in. However, over the summer I did some research on science and engineering based majors and the Computer Science major drew my interest. I realized how important Computer Science is in our world today with technology advancing at a rapid pace and all the endless job opportunities that are and will be available in the Computer Science field. After I thought over it, I concluded that I wanted to major in Computer Science in college in hopes to become a programmer one day. I learned that Carnegie Mellon is the best school for Computer Science, especially in the programming subcategory. Since I have just recently found interest in CS, I do not know much about it, but I am very excited to take this major at CMU and learn much more on the subject of CS. In fact, I am so eager to start learning more about this subject that I have started to teach myself some programming languages!
Enrolling at Carnegie Mellon will not only give me the best four years of my life as well as make the best use of my potential, but it will give me the tool of knowledge, which will allow me to succeed in life after graduation. I know that studying at CMU will not be like any ordinary college. I know for sure that it will be a challenge, but I am fond of challenges. CMU will test my capabilities, forcing me to improve and ultimately become the best version of myself. I trust that with a CS degree from Carnegie Mellon, I will not only be able to fulfill my dreams of becoming a programmer, but I will be able to inspire and lead others who are also interested in a career in Computer Science as well. So, why do I choose Carnegie Mellon? I choose Carnegie Mellon because it is where I belong.

First off, you should be careful about posting your essays directly to these forums-- someone could easily plagiarize.
Second, you basically just repeated back to them what is on their website. The “Why so-and-so-school?” essays are equally about saying what about the school appeals to you as how you will fit in there. Student-to-faculty ratios and ranking lists don’t really mean much. College admissions people know these things. Practically anyone applying to CMU could submit this exact same essay; make it unique to you! Did you visit campus? Was there a moment where you were like, “wow, I should go to school here”? Is there a certain professor doing something you think is interesting? What are you going to bring to the table?
