Carnegie Mellon Pre-College

Anyone here going this summer? I'm in APEA and am taking two CompSci courses.

I'm not, but I have a friend taking Java:) Are you taking that too?

yeah, and ECE

Hey ever_after,
which java are you in?
taking 15-200 Adv.Prgmming and 18-100 Intro to ECE (like you)!

sounds exciting. I'll see you in about a week!!

[general lurker, hence the complete lack of posts]

I'm in 15-100 (Beg. Java) ;) See you in ECE!

I'll be there. Apparently >200 of the kids are APEA and significantly fewer for the other programs.

I will be attending the National High School Game Academy.

Wanna take bets on who'll have more fun? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Triumph!

By the way, I've written several Java programs (read: games) and I've got 3 years of CS classes behind me, so drop by if you need help.

It will be interesting to see what other kids sign up for this program; nobody goes to the NHSGA to pad their resume.

tetragrammaton. NHSGA was my second choice, although after I got into APEA, no longer was terribly interested in it.

To me, personally sounded kinda boring and limited to that one software + learning important concepts about game making. Sounds intense.

But have fun with that. If its not about padding your resume then you're sure to have fun.

AP/EA is the biggest though, i've heard. second biggest would be the drama for muscial theatre kids.

Perhaps I will drop by for help, have the beginning programming concepts down pat but in C, and I'm an utter Java noob. :P

Java's easier than C. The only big difference is the emphasis on Object-Oriented Programming.

I'm not actually sure what software we'll be using. The old NHSGA site (for the first year) discussed making a campaign in Warcraft III, but the new site doesn't mention it at all. We could be making a mod for something else.

For me, NHSGA was a godsend. I'm really interested in going into game development, and it appears like this is the only serious game development camp open to high schoolers (and it just opened and I just found out about it when I was eligible... talk about luck!). I'm quite excited about it. I've already done some reading of my own about development and design, but it's going to be very interesting to take actual classes on the subject.

hey whats up guys, i just did some googling on this gaming academy. i was in the gaming academy last year in 05 . it was super fun and we did mainly wc3 campaings and some 3d modelling and python coding. if you want some more info msg me on AIM my sn is MrFraggz

also we had a website(it kinda died) <a href="http://www.ga05.net.ms%5B/url%5D">www.ga05.net.ms</a></p>

hope you all will have fun btw the food sucked ... ! and go to CCX and talk to Ashton cause shes the best ;)

I'm attending AP/EA
taking advanced programming and calculus..

But i'm begginining to have doubts, I'm not sure if paying 6500 for 6 weeks is worth it maybe its a ripoff? I am considering attending the school for college and hopefully EA if I like it there... but still is alot to pay

can someone confirm/dispute this?

was/is there even a way to get financial aid for this?

how hard is it to get into this program..

Fin aid wise, I don't think there is anything official. If you apply via Summer Programs for Diversity, and are acceted, the progam is free. All you have to do is show up on campus.

For this reason I think that those slots are probably much more selective. (Once you are here there is no distinction and nobody will know that you didn't pay unless you tell them). The paid slots do not seem to be very hard to secure, but there are LOTS of bright people here. Just so future students know, the humanities courses have very few students while the science/math ones seem to be very full.

Is anyone doing MT?
