Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Diversity

Sorry to hear that chestnutt, you can always apply to precollege

cant wait til may when the decisions come in lol. sounds like a lot of fun haha do all the summer diversity kids mingle together or in their separate programs?

Right there with you thisplacesux. I predict around may 15 (since that has been the date in years past.) Hopefully an alumni can answer our questions.

SAMS 2013 APPLICANTS - PLEASE POST WHEN U GET YOUR NOTIFICATION LETTER!
Aloha all, my son is a sophomore and applied to SAMS CMU for this summer. We’ll post when we get our letter, but since we live in Hawaii, I’m sure ours will be later than you east coasters. Please let us know when you hear!

^ I’m pretty sure decisions are emailed and not sent via regular mail, but I could be mistaken. Every other program I’m applying to notifies students this way, so I’m assuming CMU would be them since it’s logistically easier.

@CollegiateDreams, I believe they mail the decision notices. Which means that we’ll have to wait longer for our response. Good luck everyone who applied!

Darkie, gah I wish they would email it. I’m dying to know what became if my application. Best of luck to you all (and I guess myself @_@)

Really hope they send it before 5/10 because I need to make summer plans! Please please please…

Hey so I applied for SAMS but not AP/EA. If I’ve already completed AP Calc AB/BC and have gotten a 2370 on the SAT (only missed one stupid little question!), is it even worth going to SAMS on the off chance that I get accepted? It seems like it would be a waste of time for someone like me and I should let someone else who would benefit more from the classes take my place. Does anyone else have the same dilemma, and if so, what do you think?

Wow, chinkadink!! Very impressive. why did you not apply to AP/EA? I think you would of benefited more from that program. but good luck anyway!!

chinkadink: I think that if you apply to SAMS and are overqualified they can redirect you to AP/EA, but I’m not 100% positive. Did you not check off that you want to also be considered for AP/EA on the application?

Wanted to update you guys, I emailed CM yesterday, and they said the letters will be coming out in the mail next week! Good luck!

I received a call from SAMS yesterday requesting of all things, my application. Everything that I mailed was intact, but they did not have the actual online application which I received a confirmation email for on 3/15! So I filled out another application and emailed it back to them. Since it was only yesterday that they discovered my missing application, I have to conclude that yesterday was the first time that they actually looked at my application! Anyway, I tried to ascertain info on the decision time frame but was simply told “we’re in the middle of the process.” Do you think they just started reviewing applications yesterday, and then they just knock out the decisions in a couple of days?

Hmm, possibly. That is kind of disappointing. Maybe yours was just one of the last applications they are reviewing? I would hope that they started sooner, especially considering the fact that decisions for this program come out so late to begin with.

Decisions wont be going out until the next couple of days… I guess, i’ll call them back on Wednesday. Hopefully we all are accepted!!

@CollegiateDreams No I didn’t check that box to be considered for AP/EA because I didn’t really want to pay that much money for a program.

chinkadink: If you apply under the “Summer Programs for Diversity” (which inclsudes SAMS) tuition is covered. So for applicants to the diversity programs, both SAMS and AP/EA are free.

Oh dang, I didn’t know that…I guess it would be pointless to tell them now?

I applied to the SAMS program and i got a letter today saying i was wait-listed for the AP/EA program. I’m not sure if this is “redirecting” or maybe i was rejected from the SAMS program? Does anyone else know anything? Also, has anyone received admission letters for SAMS?

I got accepted to their drama design/ptm program!!! I am so happy!!! Can wait to see all those accepted! This will be the best summer ever!
