Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Diversity

wait, are students without greencards not allowed?

i don't know! the thing is, i emailed drama dep. and they claim that for diversity program, it is limited for citizens with international students with green cards. but the thing is that there were no such thing like that on the website itself.

so, being quite frustrated, i emailed back the guy telling him that i almost finished my app and he said just to hand it in and they will 'consider it'.

so which program did you guy apply to?

i agree...i am international (canadian citizen)

i really hope they will consider my app because i spent A LOT of time on it

i applied for SAMS and AP/EA, u?

well, good luck to all of you.

thanks! you too! i figure if members of collegeconfidential truly are some of the best and the brightest, and there are only 10-15 of us applying this year, we should all have great chances at admittance.

i think we all need some luck at these kinda things. sometimes, i think, college admissions and things like this all need a good portion of luck. not to mention SATs, ECs, academics....

i guess SAMS is the main thing that carnegie promotes.. but do you guys know the quality of other programs? they are not that informative, as i said before.

haha m i the only one applying to drama?

just sent in the extra stuff. i hope the mailman didn't already come today :O.

I just found out about this program and am really interested, but the deadline already passed. Fortunately, the site says they're still accepting applications. Does anyone know if my chances of acceptance will be affected by my lateness? Also, I was wondering what to ask my teachers to write in the letters of recommendation; I'm assuming it's work habits/academic promise/cooperation/etc, as the site says, but I'm not sure. I've called and emailed them, but haven't received any responses. Can anyone help? Thanks!

it's going to be extremely stuff to get in if you start this late...it's already a very selective program to began with. I wouldn't even apply if I were you...

tough not stuff, geez

^ lol...It's late (sort of), and I'm tired.

that's my excuse

Yeah, no offence to Carnegie Mellon foundation, but they are not that good in answering questions. Don’t expect an answer. As for handing it in late, which program are you submitting to?

^
carnegie mellon UNIVERSITY*

but id have to agree, they arent the most organized admission office ive dealt with. i remember last year after they sent acceptance letters for diversity ap/ea, they sent out rejection letters to EVERYONE, including those accepted. the group of us called the office about 3 times per person to make sure that we were indeed accepted. i hope that doesnt happen this year.

^ lol...that must of been horrible.

"Congrats! You're accepted....................SIKE!!!"

but i'm glad everything worked out for you. I can attest to the "disorganized-ness" of CM. I sent them an e-mail 3 times, and never recieved a response.

I'm kinda ****ed, I got the brochure on Friday, and the deadline was March 1st. By the time I get all those recs and transcipts together, I'll be WAY behind. Groan.

I'm supposed be working a lot this summer anyway. Oh, well.

mistofolis-I'm applying to the architecture program.
I could probably send them my application sometime next week. Would I even have a tiny chance at getting in? :/ I'm rather desperate b/c I don't have $5000+ to spend on architecture summer programs at other schools, so this is my only chance. :(

why do you guys send e-mails though? i just call and they usually at least sound like they are organized. that is... unless someone has been lying to me.

yeah, I meant by Carnegie Mellon UNI....

i choose not to call because calling from Thailand to US is pretty expensive.. and i dunno. id rather not... im not good with phones...

^
^

architecture.. that's interesting. yeah, $5000+ is expensive.. I hope they don't just push people who are not 'qualified' (like me, being an intl student) into the pool where people have to pay.

I checked my EMS today and it says that my packet arrived in USJFK airport. yay...

on that note, if we are rejected from Diversity, is there still the option to do the pre-college/paid program? Or is it too late to even try and do that?

welll i dunno. i think if you are too 'good' to go, then yeah.
but i wouldn't pay for it. it's just too expensive.

im not in such a good mood today.. :(
