Haven't seen a CMU thread on top for awhile... who applied and what all have you heard about admissions? From what I've heard, decisons might not be out until june...

guess no ones applying to CMU?? …hm good for me I suppose.

I applied to CMU, but after my visit to campus I don’t think the school is for me. Good luck, though!

how so? what didnt you like? i havent had a chance to visit yet…

I just didn’t really feel comfortable there. It’s kind of preppy and really geared towards computer science and engineering, although arts have a good place at the school as well. It’s kind of hard to explain, but I just didn’t really like my visit. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you’ll dislike it!

i’m actually transferring out of cmu…

care to share why?

In all honesty, CMU is just kind of a strange place; while there are normal kids there, the student body in general just gives off kind of a nerdy vibe- not funny nerdy, like “Yeah, I’m smart but I can joke around and have a good time,” but more like “I’m really smart and therefore cannot possibly have the same kind of fun stupid people have.” I guess most people just have huge egos that extend wayyy beyond academics, to the point that they think being smart makes them better than you. Also, depending on your department, you either get tons of funding/special programs or absolutely 0. The compsci/engineering depts are awesome, but the humanities absolutely suck- professors are sub-par, and you’re constantly belittled for having an “easy” major.

Sorry if this is overly cynical, I just really hate it. People do like it, but if you’re looking to have a “normal” college experience, there are very few people here who do.

what?! how come? that sucks. coz lots of good school have ddl of replying around June 1st.
