Carnegie Mellon University

30 composite/32 superscore
Highest: 34E 30M 32R 31S

GPA
3.964

I take the hardest classes available at my small, public high school (which is surprisingly ranked pretty high for academics). I took every AP class available (except for social studies in which I took honors)

I'm a female and the first of my family to go to college. My parents make decent money. I have done football cheer, basketball cheer, and competition cheerleading all through high school. I have done lots of volunteering through cheerleading. I was captain of the comp team. I worked a part time job all through high school. I'm in NHS. I have done a lot of traveling around the world. I was the only girl on my school's science Olympiad team and we did really well at the comps. I taught myself how to code and have made my own games. I've started volunteering at the soup kitchen.

I know my stats are at the very bottom of CMU's average, but I am extremely passionate about computers and seeing as CMU is #1 for comp sci, I would do anything to go there. I think my passion will show in my essays.

Also might be able to get a letter of rec from a friend who graduated from CMU!! And from a former Ohio congressman who is a family friend.

All input is appreciated.

You guys are mean…
Just kidding
Kind of

I think most people on this forum are students, so they don’t really know more than you. Even if they do reply, I would take it with a grain of salt. Good luck (:

That’s true. A little advice never hurts though. Thanks:) @sallymeno11‌

I wouldn’t put much value in the recommendations from the CMU alum or the ohio representative. The ones that are most valued are your academic teachers, then the people that see you everyday during your ECs - your coaches, advisers, club leaders, guidance counselors. ect. These people are less inclined to be biased and have more experience with writing good recommendations anyway. If your GPA is UW, it is pretty solid, but if you re considering CS, you might want to get your ACT score up especially in math and science to show that you can handle the rigorous courseload. Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice! I’ve taken the ACT 3 times and got the same score. I probably won’t take it again. I think my rigorous hs course load should show that I can handle a rigorous course load. And math is my best subject so the ACT doesn’t match up with that. But thanks! @shawnspencer
