Carnegie Mellon vs UMich

OK, so I've been admitted to Carnegie Mellon, UMich, UIUC, UCLA and Georgia Tech for electrical engineering. But I'm not really fixed on electrical now and could change to mechanical as well. On further researching these universities, I've narrowed it down to Carnegie and UMich. Could you let me know which is better? Also, if any of the other universities I've listed are better than Carnegie & UMich, let me know and why you say so too :)

Thank you so much :D

I was only accepted to Michigan and CMU and I am so glad I went to carnegie mellon. CMU is different because beyond the classroom, the start-up entrepreneurial culture is something encouraged and facilitated to a point where you become a real world engineer and not just someone who knows how circuit boards work. Also, with the opportunities in robotics and computer science at CMU, (I’m studying robotics), you’re in a program with the best experts in the world, and you can feel it. It’s really an education that’s beyond what most universities including michigan can offer. Also CMU is ranked #1 in the US for highest starting salary among graduates.

Thanks so much Baskan

what helped you cross out UIUC?

The fact that UIUC was so big and also not so reputed for electrical engineering as such. Should I be considering UIUC as well?

UIUC is the number 5 engineering school in the nation…higher than Umich and carnegie mellon.

“It’s really an education that’s beyond what most universities including michigan can offer”

Oh really?

You think world class universities like Michigan are just places where students know how “circuit boards work?” CMU is excellent in engineering no doubt, but please don’t disparage other fantastic schools while trying to make your point.
