Hey everyone,
Back in September, I was invited to an event for high school seniors called Carolina and Beyond. The session I went to was in November. Basically, we had a lecture from a Psychology professor on the flipped classroom, a few student panels on study abroad, entrepreneurship opportunities, and work study, and then professor led panels about certain majors/interests. There were six to choose from and you just sat in on the one that tailored to your ambitions. They gave us surveys and asked us where UNC ranked on our lists, and I obviously put #1. I was wondering if attending a program like this increases your chances of admission? I know its not a demonstrated interest type of school, but they had us rank it and it was an invite only type of thing. I’m just wondering if that’s going to boost me at all. Let me know your thoughts!
I went to that too and was wondering the same thing. Also, I went to Carolina 101 last year. bump
I didn’t know about this until I looked it up. I am assuming it is a huge advantage since it is an “invitation only event and for those who would like to learn more about Carolina”. How do they choose the seniors for this program? Is it only for in-state?
My in-state daughter was invited but didn’t go as she had done an on grounds tour already and would have had to miss school to attend. I assume they use the rankings from students for “competitive marketing” purposes at the very least. Maybe they get factored into review of your application but I also thought UNC did not track demonstrated interest.
I have no idea how I was chosen for the event, but I was thrilled to attend. I wonder if it’s based on scores or something. I thought the same thing, I’d heard so many times that UNC did not track demonstrated interest but then when they asked us to rank UNC on our list of schools that seemed to contradict it a little. I’m just hoping it helps me some and is factored into my application!
Also, I met some out-of-state kids there so it wasn’t just for in-state kids
I went to Carolina 101 last year but skipped Carolina and Beyond and was accepted to Chapel Hill a couple weeks back. But I do have a friend who went to both and got denied…
