Has anyone participated in Carolina United, or perhaps know of someone who did? What was the experience like? Would you recommend it?

I have not participated in Carolina United for a variety of reasons, but a lot of my close friends have and they loved the experience. From what they have said, I would recommend it.

Basically, every year they confront a different issue. I think last year it was sexual orientation/gender identity. Basically you get to talk about these kinds of issues and meet some pretty awesome people in the process.

This is a really basic overview of what happens, but I hope it answered some of your questions.

Is it for first years, or all underclassmen? I don’t think Carolina United was well advertised at all. It conflicts with Band Camp and Carolina Kickoff, so if you’re involved in either, you can’t do United.

I think it is for all underclassmen if I remember correctly. I could be wrong though, and it is fairly selective, I think 60 “campers”.

^ Yeah, that’s the sticking point for me-- I don’t think it’s really designed for incoming first year students. I’m sure people could go and have a fun time, but I didn’t get the impression that incoming 1st years were really wanted.

Browsing the website, I noticed the counselors listed were all juniors/seniors, so I actually got the impression it was geared towards freshmen and sophomore. I am actually thinking about participating before my senior year…I hope I won’t be too “old”.

My daughter will be participating this year as an incoming junior.
