The better question is, what don’t you do at CK?

Haha, honestly, I think they change it up every year so I can’t speak for sure, but for me, the experience was a lot like camp. You were divided into two different groups as well into different cabins, so you interacted with lots of people. Activities ranged from goofy scavenger hunts to serious talks about real issues. There was a lot of bonding with each other as well as counselors (they’re undergrad students, and make for good mentors), there were dance parties, volleyball and frisbee games – really, camp. A really crazy but incredibly fun camp.

As for dorms, the high rises are the way to go freshman year. My year, Ehringhaus was the social dorm but HoJo was also pretty fun (I lived in HoJo, but spent a lot of time in Ehaus). You’ll find partiers and non-partiers in both. Cobb is the honor dorm, it’s more on the quiet end, and it’s all the way up in north campus. It can be social, but not like south campus dorms.

I’d stay away from Teague, Carmichael, and other mid-campus dorms if atmosphere is your priority. They mostly consist of athletes and sophomores who already have set groups of friends. They are social dorms, but that’s because people chose to live with their friends in the same dorm. Most aren’t looking to make friends with the few freshman scattered about (it can happen, of course, I made friends with freshman living in my dorm this year, but you can just as easily be left out). On the plus side, they have bigger rooms (save Carmichael) and have a much better location.

The directionals (craige north, horton, hardin, koury) are sophomores/freshman dorms, definitely have nicer and bigger rooms, but again, not as social in the same sense the high rises are. Morrison is a hit or miss. There are a good number of freshman there, and I know it can get really fun, but there is also a large portion of sophomores living in the supersuites or in suites with all their friends. Morrison is super nice though, probably the nicest in all south/mid campus.

I’d still go for HoJo/Ehaus. It’s like a rite of passage to live in one of those, and super fun.
