Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship?

Any news for any one? Being a CB finalist is much more competitive than getting into an IVY league school. Do we know how many applications they receive for this?

I believe the answer is in the mid-hundreds who applied last year and the number of applicants grows every year as word gets out. My child’s school had ten applicants this year and no one from the school had ever heard of the scholarship and applied before this year.

If the interviews are being scheduled starting 06/19 and still no news implies maybe my was not one of the finalists

If it helps anyone, last year we heard on June 8 that our son was a Finalist - they may have called first and not gotten him but I for sure recall that they sent an email asking him to call as soon as possible. Unfortunately, he did not wind up getting the scholarship :frowning:

Best of luck to all the 2017 applicants out there!

Thanks. Do you know by any chance if they send a regret email out to all the applicants who are not finalists?

No idea. The only other person my son knew who was applying was also selected as a Finalist and also failed to get the scholarship :frowning:

If you are a Finalist, though, the odds are better than even that you’ll get the scholarship. I think that last year there were 49 or 50 Finalists and 29 or 30 were named Scholars.

Also, in prior years they have had as many as 800 or so applicants, but I think last year they did not have as many - maybe 500?

Thanks for the response. They said they will coming out with the finalists in the week of 06/11 but there are no update either on the application website or any communication

The application said all applicants will be notified by email. So, they won’t leave us wondering.!

DS received an email today that he was not selected as a finalist. They said he was a semi-finalist, but I have a feeling that’s the consolation they give everyone who filled out an application.

We just got our email as well. Not a finalist. Good luck to everyone else!

DD got the “regret to inform you” email, too…

Was I correct about the “semi-finalist” designation? We’re on our way for some ego-soothing ice cream cones…

We got our “regret to inform you…” email this afternoon, and it did include the semi-finalist verbiage as well.

@momof3nyc : No idea whether CDB views all non-finalists as semi-finalists, but they might. If your kid meets the application criteria, that’s pretty darn good. And they may well have an internal ranking of kids who were definitely in the running but did not make the final cut. There could be lot of talented kids in that group, since it appears (see #25) that the number of finalists is not even double the number of selected scholars. That’s a pretty fine sieve. Hope the ice cream worked its magic.

@AboutTheSame It did! What can I say? Mint chocolate chip has some magical healing properties.

Hi all. Happy to report we have a FINALIST in our house. Any info about the process would be helpful. TIA.

My information is dated (and hearsay, since I was not there), but I think the most important thing is for your kid to be her/himself. Here’s my journal notes of what I was told: “[D] talked with the president of the foundation at the hotel (said she laughed a lot, so [D] was either engaging or silly) while [wife] spoke on the phone with Megan Bruno, the person who actually runs the scholarship program and then [D] talked briefly on the phone with her.” It may be more structured now; we were in maybe the 5th year, but I’m convinced that what they want to see is the genuine article – the spirit, the enthusiasm, the joy of learning & exploring & developing whatever unique talents the kid has. Best of luck, ATS

Thank you for that insight.

Hi! I didn’t get it :frowning:
Could @claudawson be so kind to give me some profile stuff of the candidate about how amazing he/she was to make me feel better LOL

I posted previously in detail about the process my S went through during the interview process for the CDB. Unfortunately I was not aware in time to have my D apply, but she was so interested we applied to a few schools and were able to get enough assistance that the cost was very reasonable after an internal scholarship and financial aid was provided. Even if your S or D did not get the CDB scholarship all of these schools want the best students. You should consider applying anyway.
