Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship?

Hey guys! Does anyone have any information on the Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship?
I’ll probably give you stats to chance me at one point, but right now I just want to know a little bit more about it. I’m applying for it, and I would be ecstatic if I got in. It would be a great support for my high school, and I would love the opportunity to further my education without having to worry about money.
Thanks guys, as always

Do a search on Bradley Scholarship or CDB and you’ll see a lot of information about the scholarship and the process. They are looking for people, not paper accomplishments, so while you need to make sure your accomplishments are documented, focus your essay’s on you as a person. What makes you unique and how might having you join the CDB team lead to a more interesting network of individuals.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know how much the SAT score matters? I did pretty badly, so I would just like to know.

Did you apply?

The SAT score is just a qualifying step. I don’t think your actual score matters that much – unless you hit the 90th percentile perhaps. You’re taking the test as a 7th grader. They don’t expect miracles.

“Scores 20 or higher in either the Math or Reading component of the ACT or scores 500 or higher in either the Critical Reading or Math component of SAT Reasoning Test.”

D took the SAT cold her first time as a 7th grader. No prep beyond what taking the bubble tests every year in elementary school had provided. 490 math 580 verbal. Selected as a CDB scholar.

What year was D CDB Scholar? Thank you AboutTheSame

D started high school in 2005 and got the scholarship in the spring of 2004, so I think she was called a 2004 scholar, since the non-financial assistance kicked in with the high school application process during the 2004-2005 8th grade school year. I’m pretty sure that’s the nomenclature they used. She actually took the SAT (what was then the “new SAT” compared to one she’d taken before) again in the spring of 2005 (although for the life of me I can’t remember why) and did some practice tests/read a prep book that time. Upped her scores in both categories by 50 to 60 points, although that had no relevance to CDB at that point. FWIW, one of her friends back in 7th grade was a math whiz, possibly even a genius, and scored an 800 math on the 2004 SAT (according to his mo, at least, and I think she was probably telling the truth) but was not chosen as a CDB finalist, so the test scored obviously weren’t everything – even at that stage of the process. I expect everything has gotten more competitive in the intervening years. They’ve increased the number of scholarships (I think it was maybe 7 or 10 back then) but have also increased the number of states covered by the program, and it’s gotten more ink and undoubtedly more applicants, but I expect the overall holistic approach talked about in some of the other CDB threads still prevails. Sorry for the somewhat stream of consciousness response, but I hope some of this helps.

Thank you for the information.

Thanks! I got a 790 on math and a 690 on reading. shivers
I was just expecting better, but I’m still grateful

Anyways, yes, I did apply, and I’m sorry if I’m pestering you guys, but I’ll just put my stats.

It’s too late to change anything, but just an idea of where I would stand would still help a lot. I don’t want to get my hopes up and then be crushed by a rejection.

Sorry, that was a lot to write, so I may have had some mistakes/typos in there. I’m not trying to brag (not that i can -_-) , so I really hope I don’t sound conceited.

sadly, I (sigh) got a B in science last year. Last year was a really tough year for me because of some personal issues (regarding my parents.) Sadly, my lips are sealed on the subject, so I can’t talk about it, but I had some complications, that affected me emotionally, financially, and such. Please don’t take it as an excuse, I own up to my faults, and my mistakes last year :). hope that doesn’t affect me too much

so yeah, I finished the application process as well (hoping for the best)

You definitely have the chops to be a finalist, but predicting the CBD is even harder than giving opinions on college chances. Just stay calm and be yourself. Good luck.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

I really appreciate all your kind words! Thank you, and I will really try my best. Fingers crossed

In all candor with the record you have you could just apply to all of the top schools and if you create a good story with your application you’ll get in with our without the CDB. One thing I learned is that the schools WILL absolutely find a way for you to attend finanically if they feel you will help create the environment they are looking for. Keep in mind three things. First, be yourself - but be unique too. You must answer the question to every school you apply to of why you would contribute to their culture. Don’t be generic - do your research. Don’t assume they will work to figure it out. Second, remember that they have to create this culture – which means academics, sports, and arts – all with generally a 100-200 people. They want to fill their teams, the arts program, their music program, they want to do debates, and having journals, etc. The more of these you can contribute too - the better your chances. Grades play a role but it’s harder to find someone well rounded that’s also smart - so show (don’t tell) how you fit the big picture. Lastly, they want to see that you can handle these extra-curricular activities without having a challenge in academics. That doesn’t mean you need to score perfectly - but you have to show you can manage priorities and that you’re aligned with what your passions are and that they can contribute to that. So be sure what’s important to you is also important to them.

@ChristmasDickens Thank you so much for your genuine answer! I will take note of all your tips, and try my best

Hi guys, do any of you have an idea of about what time results come out? I’m just curious.

Finalists will be notified in early June.
Finalist Interview Period:6/19 – 8/18/2017
Decision day is around the last week of August.

Has anyone heard back on 2017 applications? We are headed overseas shortly and we were hoping to know one way or the other before we left. I assume we will get email notification.

Back in the day, we got a phone call that D was a finalist, and they were very flexible about rescheduling the interview since we were going to be in England on the original date. I’d email and ask.

No word on DDs application yet! Fingers are still crossed!
