Carpetball?

Does anyone else here play it? I am actually pretty good, as I have grown up going to summer camp a LOT.

No, how do you play that?

I used to play that game all of the time during physical education classes in high school and middle school! Totally forgot about it. I always hated how if somebody caught you taking your foot off of the carpet, you had to run to the next base, especially when it was obvious to the other team that you had to run. It was hilarious when somebody would kick the ball far away and a stampede of kids would run from one carpet to the other. haha.

Anyways, carpet ball is similar to kickball, except you have two carpets that serve as the bases. You kick the ball and run to one of the carpets. If you take your foot off of the carpet, then you have to run to the next carpet no matter what. There is no limit to the amount of people that can stay on the carpet, and there is also no limit to the amount of people that can run away from the carpet either. The rules of kickball still apply though - getting an out by being tagged or having somebody catch your kick, etc. Fun game that brings back memories.

Oh yes, middle school gym class. We had mats not carpets…but yeah, it was great when people fell on their ass when they got to the mat.

Yeah, we call it matball and use mats

Slightly off-topic, but one time on a school trip in elementary school we were waiting for a plane at the airport. The flight was a several hours late, and the kids were causing a nuisance, so one of the teachers decided to organize some games. After about an hour of races (including one that required sliding along the floor ) I noticed that I had pretty severe carpet burn. When I went to get a band-aid, the person with the first-aid kit was surprised and decided to check other people. It turned out that about half of the class was bleeding or close to bleeding.

The kids were much quieter after that.

@mich: Um, actually I was referring to carpetball[/url”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpetball]carpetball, one of the world’s most awesome games.

@Warts: It’s a camp game, loud, fast paced, and occasionally dangerous. See the link for a description. It’s played with pool balls on a long, narrow table with sidewalls and a gutter at each end. Each player sets up his balls on his side (5 each is standard) and then takes turn throwing the cue ball and trying to knock in the other player’s balls.

There’s a wide variety of setups people use, and at high levels of skill they arrange them with almost laser precision, even taking into account such things as the clor pattern and the angle of the stripes on the balls.

A good player should in theory be able to knock in 5 balls in in 3-4 throws, but in reality they usually miss some. When I’m on a good winning streak I tend to take 4-5 throws to win a round.

The moral of the story is, if you want small children to be quiet, you have to make them bleed.

^ This is true.
