@DomCobb: I totally agree. Sometimes they have no idea what they are talking about. But I think the FA office told me that the late fee will not be applied until 30 days after August 15th. So I guess we still have time =D

@Momfirst3: Thank you so much for your help!!! I really appreciate it!!! =D I wish you son good luck at Berkeley!!

Awh, thanks! How nice. I was going to “officially” sign of the site when I drop him off on Saturday. I don’t want to make any of you students uncomfortable, but I hope I helped a little with the financial aid mess. It’s so confusing. Anyhow, everyone has been so nice and tolerant of my clueless self as I tried to figure out various issues for my youngest. I have two in college already, but they are only an hour away (San Diego and Los Angeles.) Sending one off a distance where I won’t get to see him much is on the tough side for me. I’m sure I will need my dark glasses to hide my teary eyes… Happy tears. I’m just so happy for you all. I hope each and every one of you has a great year at Berkeley. Go Bears!

However, my CARS Quick statement shows that I have a $5012 balance (but then it says I paid $6666 on eBill) and the payment summary only shows that I paid the $100 SIR fee.

I’m confused. Am I good for the Aug 15th payment or do I have to pay the CARS bill now as well?

Whatever the balance is on your quick statement, that is the amount you owe currently. If a zero balance is shown for the “minimum amount due now,” you owe nothing at this time. Has all of your financial aid paid out? If so, then you would owe the balance shown on the quick statement. If you are expecting more aid, then once all of that has funded you would owe what is left. If you get more aid than the amount you owe, you would receive a refund. I hope this helps a bit. I agree. It is sooooo confusing.

So is that amount I owe on the quick statement part of the amount I owe by Aug 15th? Because my registration fees have apparently been paid, but I can’t tell for sure.

Also, on my eBill, it has a statement saying I owe $6666, but if I look at my payment history, it shows that the same statement has been paid (which it was by my dad). I can’t tell what that means…

All I know for sure is that the quick statement is the most up to date information for your account. The ebill is just a snapshot of your account on a certain day and time. It doesn’t get updated every time a payment is made, but the quick statement does. If the quick statement shows that your minimum payment has been made, then that is all you need to pay by August 15th. You only have to make the minimum payment by August 15th. You can pay more if you like, but you are only required to pay the minimum due. The ebill is just like a paper bill you receive in the mail. You would have to wait until the next statement is mailed to you to see all the activity. Whatever the quick statement shows as your balance, that is the correct amount. The only wrinkle would be if you are awaiting more aid. In that case, wait for that aid to be posted before you pay the final amount.

But the quick statement doesn’t specify whether I paid the minimum amount. It just says my balance is $5012. Elsewhere, it shows I’ve paid my registration fee. So, I don’t really know what the situation is here.

The CARS quick statement on Bearfacts has three amounts listed. The one that is Amount Balance includes all the future monthly charges for room and board but those are not yet due. The only two that count as far as this month’s payment are the other two. If they look like this, you need pay nothing on August 15th:

Minimum Amount Due Now: $0.00
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $0.00

Please don’t apologize. I have never felt so dense in my life (and my life is longer than your’s) as I have while trying to figure out financial aid for my three college aged kids. It is so fricken confusing and each university is different. No apologies are necessary! :-)

Hi, everyone. I’m really confused as to what to do because I looked at my Quick Statement, and it says this:

Minimum Amount Due Now: $48.00
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $48.00
Account Balance: $48.00

As of: June 18, 2010

In fact, everything (Awards Summary, Payment Summary, Quick Statement, and Refund Summary) seem to be as of June 18, 2010. I thought they were supposed to be updated everyday.

I looked on my e-bill, and the $48 is for a course materials fee for a summer class I took during Session C. There doesn’t seem to be a way to pay just the $48 using the e-bill, however, without making the minimal payment for my registration fees, which I can’t pay right now because I’m waiting for financial aid to be posted. Any advice as to what I should do? I don’t want to end up paying the late fee for the unpaid $48. Thanks a lot!

There is no way to just pay the $48??? Can’t you pay it online somehow? That would be what you need to do and you need to do it by the 15th. Call CARS with questions. The wait to speak to them isn’t long and they could tell you how to pay that bill. Good luck.

When you do an electronic payment from a bank account, the method you get to when you want to pay your bill from e-bill, it gives you the choice to enter your own chosen amount to pay.

So the only place that is up to date ,s the CARS quick statement? On the e-bill site it says

“Students can confirm payment receipt on [U. C. Berkeley: Student Systems](http://bearfacts.berkeley.edu), select Students > CARS > Payment Summary (allow 2 business days).”

But it’s been like 2 weeks and it still doesn’t show the payment, although my quick statement does say amount due now is 0. For this credit card application I’m doing, it says I need to send them a “paid tuition bill for the current semester” as proof of enrollment. Do you think the Quick Statement is enough? Since that’s the only thing that seems to be updated…

Also just a general question, when it says account balance, what does that mean? Is that the amount you owe?

rider730: thanks you!!! my balance says this :

Minimum Amount Due Now: $0.00
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $0.00
Account Balance: $0.00

so that means i don’t have to pay ANYTHING at all this semester!!?? including room and board? omg that would be awesome. i dont even know how that’s possible but i’ll take it!

Yes. The ebill will never change. Never. It will remain forever as a frozen monument to the state of your CARS account on the one day in late July that it was created. At the end of this month, a new ebill will be created with a Sep 15 due date. Over time you end up with a history of monthly ebills.
