Cars on Campus

Any idea what percentage of freshman have cars on campus?

According to the info by U. S. News, 77 percent of the Chapman students have cars on campus, but I think that is for the general student body. The best way to decide whether to bring a car or not is to find out from the roommates to see if they are bringing one. If everyone agrees to carpool then that should be enough.

Yeah, I saw the 77% number too. So, I’m assuming that because your screen name begins with OC that you are from the OC? We are, and my son has his own car that would be very easy (and convenient) to bring. But I guess my real question stems from the fact that I don’t want him to turn into everyone’s driver, whether it’s on the weekends when they go out or whether it’s on the weekdays when someone needs something at the market. If most people have a car then that probably won’t be much of an issue, but if most do not then it becomes an issue. Then I’m balancing that with, despite all the posts about taking the bus to the beach, I know as a local that our public transportation is pretty much non existent and a car is important if you want to go beyond the “Orange Circle”. Did your child bring a car, and if so how did it work out?

We are in the OC. Does your son know who his roommates going to be yet? I would suggest him to contact his roommates and see if they plan on bringing their cars. DS did not bring a car because one of the roommates had a car and one of the suitemates also had a car. They got in touch with each other over the summer prior to moving in and agreed to carpool and team up with the suitemates to take turns to go to the store. This may not work for everyone and for those individuals having a car is more convenient. Depending on where you live in the OC because OC is huge. If you live near a train station, he can take a train home from the Orange train station. If you live 10-15 minutes away, then just drive if it’s an inconvenient, whichever way works the best.
