i know everyone says you dont NEED a car as a freshman. but i was wonderin how practical would it be to bring one? is parking really hard to find for freshman? if i dont bring a car how am i gonan get back home(i live in the bay area)

I was there today and this is what I was told:
Parking is a lottery for freshmen, so don't count on being able to bring a car.
If you happen to recieve a parking spot, the parking spot is like 10 mns away from campus, so kinda far and inconvenient.
A bus can take you from campus to the major spots around the city
It is NOT recommended that you bring a car freshman year.

BTW, UCSB is a major biking school and that's all you need to get around campus. The bussing system is free for students so getting around shouldn't be too difficult. There is also a train in Santa Barbara (I'm not sure how close it is to the school, though) that should be able to get you back home. I hope this helps.

ya they even have a traffic light on campus for all the bikers, that's crazy

UNLESS...you live at Francisco Torres. They have their parking lot. Most people from where I live end up at FT. Then you are almost guarenteed a parking permit. I need my car to drive home, and also to drive to santa barbara (not isla vista/goleta) where I have family. If you want to bring your car, make FT your first choice. But if you don't need a car (which you probably don't) then look more at the other dorms that are actually on campus.
