Cars?????

Hi there,

Can a freshman have a car at Upenn?

Having a car isn't the problem........parking the car is. You can bring your car, just make sure you make arrangements for parking.

<a href="http://www.business-services.upenn.edu/parking/student.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.business-services.upenn.edu/parking/student.html</a></p>

Yep, you can, parking is very tough to find though.

I will slash your tires, btw. No student needs a car in this town!

i got crazy stares from the student guide when i asked that during my tour

S has a car at Penn this summer (he is taking some summer courses). He needs it to drive to a job in a suburb. He found a private parking space- not cheap, but less than the Penn parking. He will NOT keep the car in the city this fall. We have friends in the suburbs and he will leave it out there.

You can have a car and park it through penn or on one of the residential street around (pine, baltimore, etc.) but it's not as safe...having a car is nice if you plan on traveling a lot...although there is always the train for the major cities.

As stated, a car is possible but hard to find parking for. You are better off walking, taking cabs, or using the Septa. Any of these alternatives are very cheap by comparison. I really recommend using the trains or regional rails if you plan on doing some state travels -- it's ridiculously cheap and fairly quick and convenient. No parking or hassle needed.

I'm not bringing my car, at least not for the first semester. If I feel I need it, then I'll bring it down. But I've heard that you don't really need one.
