cars?

i dont have one and im living on campus so i prob. wont need one but IF i were to get a car [ha fat chance w/this economy and school expenses], how much would it cost to get a parking space?
it'd be nice to have one tho b/c ideally ill be home a few times a month and i h8 the el.

it’s really not worth it imo.
my parents used to have penn parking, and i think it was about $1000+ a year. this was a few years ago, so the price has probably gone up by now. they also drove to work everyday, so it was put to good use. don’t let your car rot in storage.
suck it up and take public transportation ;)! septa really is not that bad. you’ll save $$.

it’s $1295 for the school year

SEPTA is fine, and you also have sweet carshare programs which basically let you select from hundreds of cars throughout the city of all sorts and you pay by the hour… PhillyCarShare

It’s awesome and way cheaper than owning and paying for a car/parking/maintenance/insurance/gas…

My son has really good luck parking on the street when he has his car there. There are places- maybe not right by your dorm- but they are free. I will add that he recently got two tickets- one for a snow zone (he had no idea…) and the other on a street right behind his housing that suddenly got posted “Authorized Parking Only” and all the cars parked there (for weeks) got ticketed. No problems with vandalism, etc. so far. Car share program doesn’t work for him due to past moving violations…

You really don’t need a car on campus. Almost no one has one. It’s very expensive to park and insure if you live on campus and want consistent parking.

I definitely wouldn’t bring one freshman year, as it’s more trouble than it’s worth. If you move off campus and find street parking in front of your house, you might want to bring a car then.
