so this question has probably been answered but i suck so im going to ask it anyway. whats the policy for cars freshman year? my best friend is also going to college in la and i really would like to have a car so i can see year on the weekends sometimes. i also live in northern california so it wouldn't be too difficult to drive down south and back up for breaks and stuff.

well, it is possible to have a car your first year. however, the biggest problem is parking. most students living on-campus are not granted parking permits. but, in all honesty, you don't really need a car. westwood is very close (walking distance) and public transportation can get you almost anywhere you need to go.

legitamtely have a job or internship that's not too closeby
commute a long distance (like 10 or more miles)
LIE about a job/internship , which is dangeorus since if you're caught you can get in big trouble

your first year you dont really need a car. if your friend is going to like usc or LMU, there are buses to there.. not the easiest ride but doable

Im a freshman and i have a car. If you really need a car and are willing to pay a lot then look on the My.Ucla forums in the summer and people will advertise to rent their parking spot at their apartments. Im paying about 180/month just fyi

i actually use my car a lot. i go home on the weekends because i live closeby or hang out with friends. i also go to mcdonalds, kfc, and other restaurants a lot because im tired of on campus food lol

that was my plan until I heard about no cars well I kinda figured that when I see like 10 story buildings and no parking lots... but my friend who goes to ucla says it is quite easy to go home on the train and stuff so I don't think we have to worry about it too much I mean if you live 1-2 hours away im sure there is a metrolink station around your area...

For $1620 in parking + gas (likely more expensive since it's LA) + insurance + the hassle, it's definitely not worth it for me, even if I only lived a few hours away.
