Can you get an economics major through the CAS program? I thought this route might only be available throgh Wharton but in my application Economics is also listed under CAS. I was just wondering because i want to do economics but i want to apply to the CAS school. Also, how good is UPenn's engineering program?

wharton’s degree title is a Bachelors of Science in Economics with a concentration in finance, management, etc. (whatever you choose)…it is not, however, an economics programs…you literally only have to take 2 econ classes while in wharton (micro and macro econ).

The economics major is offered through CAS…and you receive a Bachelors of Arts in Economics. This is the complete econ program…here you take classes like econometrics, etc.

Penn’s engineering program is considered top 25 in the country…so it’s pretty good. That said, if you want to study engineering I would suggest more engineering focused schools.

^ Except, of course, if the OP wants to study certain specialized and emerging engineering fields, such as bioengineering or nanotechnology. Penn’s engineering school is very strong in several of these fields, often ranked among the top 10 in the nation.

Thanks for the help. So how good would you say the economics program through CAS is at UPenn?

Top 10 in the country.

^ Correct. That’s how it’s usually ranked.
